Prague

Prague, what a place! This is a very old city in the Czech Republic. The capital in fact! After leaving Hungary we headed here. Another different currency, but it is actually quite favorable for Aussies.

The hotel that we stayed at (Top Hotel) boasted that they are the largest in Europe. It has over 1200 rooms in 3 blocks, 2 receptions, casino, 3 gift shops and even a bowling alley! The rooms were massive! Probably bigger than a normal apartment with 2 double beds and stuff. But no aircon! Like most places and it was pretty damn hot!

We headed off to our group dinner again in town, after catching the bus and tram. Another surprise with some very fancy trains there. First it was a bit of orientation around town, look at some sights and stuff. It was wow at every turn, just a stunning city.

The dinner was OK, beer is quite cheap here! About $5 for a pint. In the restaurant they had some strange cartoons on the wall, some look like they were quite rude! It was then time for some of us to head out to a club in Prague. Unfortunately Nat was a bit crook, so Cam was left to represent. This place was massive! 5 stories, they boast to be the biggest club in Europe. It was a mix of mainstream, house, trance and the 80's room. Cam ended in the 80's room boogying to the crap from way back but it was a lot of fun!

Next day it was out to check out the city. It is a beautiful place. We did a 2 hour walking tour, including checking out the Royal palace and gardens. This overlooks the city. Even a changing of the guard happened whilst we where there. This was the city that the first big scene of Mission Impossible was set/filmed. Even the bridge where Tom 'pretty boy' Cruise ran across in the fog.

We then went into the Cathedral there. It is one of the largest in Europe. It has a very impressive stained glass windows there. Got some great photos. The place was very crazy with so many tourists there! It is done in a Neo-Gothic style. This is fairly standard procedure for a lot of the churches that we have seen lately. But nothing like the churches in Italy for some reason?

We then headed back down the hill to find somewhere for lunch and to have a bit more of a look around the city. Luch was pretty average, but we found somewhere that had a nice breeze and stuff.

Well some more looking around the city, an outstanding place. There is so many cool things to look at here. We were both getting a bit scruffy in the hair department, so we decided to splurge and get ourselves a haircut. We found a hairdresser that was a fancy French one, but they didn't speak much english which became a problem. Even a cafe in this salon.

We were having trouble discussing how we wanted out hair done. The best thing about here was that each of the 'cutting stations' had a LCD screen showing the world cup! You beauty! Got to watch Netherlands kick a goal, which was great. Cam's hair came out OK, but Nat's wasn't quite what she expected. But it wasn't too bad...

Killed some more time in the city, picked up some laundry that we had done, and dinner at an Irish pub. Cam had some ribs which were choice! We were then off to catch up with our friends at this pub, which we were told had some cheap beers. It took us a while to get there but yep they were cheap but would only serve you if you were sitting down. It cost Cam about $5 for a 500ml Hooegaarden beer. Very nice.

Went and took some nice night pictures of the city. In Europe they like to light up the buildings at night, but especially here they really liked to light up the buildings. Some cool photos overlooking the river at the castle on the hill and stuff.

Our friends have some friends living in Prague at the moment, and they were trying to get us out to a strip / dance club. But we decided to have a quiet night (it was 11:30 pm already!) so it was off home. We thought we had just missed the last bus out and were going to take the taxi but then a bus arrived and it was off home. (Back to the hothouse hotel...)

Hope to upload some pictures of this stunning city soon...

Cam & Nat
