Bordeaux (French for Damn Good Wine)

Hey all,

After our blinder exerience in Paris, we needed some time to recoup, so off to the deep south of France. We finally got on our train in Paris, and all was going well. Although Cam has now learned rummy from Nat, she keeps on beating me! So many games of Rummy and all was going well. And then about 1 hour from Bordeaux we stopped and about 80 10yo kids and their teachers got on. And it was just continuous noise the rest of the way, which was a shame coz it had been so peaceful, doing 300 km/h+ through France.

We arrived into Bordeaux quite lat because we missed the last train. But we found a taxi (Pegout 307 of course, and a sweet ride!) and off to our hotel. Turned out it was France' turn to step up in the World cup. Driving through town we saw everyone in the pubs watching eagearly, as it was tied 1-1 with Spain. And then France got a goal and the whole town erupted! It was chaos! And another goal and it was madness in town, horns beeping people running around going crazy!

Got to our hotel, checked in and all we could hear for the next 2 hours was horns beeping, flags waving, driving crazy and general mad behaviour by the French. You would of thought that they had won the final!! Finally got to sleep.

Day 2
Turne
d out that the local tram (a very fancy one) runs right outside our hotel with the last stop only 30m up the road.

So after struggling to get the ticket we were on into town to have a look around. Pretty cool city with lots of history, which I don´t know much about but this area has some of the most
prolific cavemen artifacts anywhere in the world.

Found a great spot for breakfast, (Karl cafe) after looking for the tourist bureau, stumbled into Rue Des Parliament.
Stunning place, with little alleys full of restaraunts etc. This place had the best breakfast! All sorts of goodies to be had, with fresh this and that and the coffee was great. We wasted 2 hours in there!

Found the main street with all the shops and stuff. Tried to get a recharge for the mobile, but told that SFR recharge did not work? It is part of the Vodafone network, but later we found out that it would work! So no mobile phone for 2 weeks.

One reason that we came down here was to speak with a family friend that owns an Irish pub
down here. He wasn't in but it was a good excuse to have a pint and relax! Had something or rather for dinner but can't remember!

Day 3
Next day we went to the a archeological museum in town.
Awesome place, and so quiet. It was a great change from what we were used to. So spent plenty of time there absorbing the huge history from cave man to today.

As it was such a nice day, we decided to have a picnic in the park. Went to the mega-super hypermarket. Bloody massive place. The seafood section was awesome with super fresh fish, live crayfish etc. The wine section was 3 isles with a bigger range than I have ever seen in any bottle shops... Picked up our goodies, and back on the tram down to the park.

This place was beautiful.
Very relaxing, green place with a bit of lake and stuff. Heaps of people enjoying the fine weather with us too. Feeling very relaxed and full, back into town to try and catch up with our family friend (Michael Jackson!) again.

Got to the pub and he bumped into us without even realising!
We spoke for a while, had a pint and were on our way home after a bit more of a look around and some time at the Internet cafe.

Stopped off for dinner in Rue Des Parliament, at this really busy restaraunt thinking it was gonna be good, but very disappointed with the service and the food was pretty average too.. Time to head back to Paris to see the D-Day beaches. Coming soon, Normandie and Villedue Les Poules...
