Germany part 3 - Stuttgart (SLK 320 please)

Hey all, finally got a bit of time to get on the Net and update you guys on the travels. Left Munich onto Stuttgart, and was some great scenery. Rolling hills dotted with trees and lovely little homes. Got to wonder what that sort of life would be. Sounds a bit like Ben & Verina with their new home in the bush. Must be getting close!

Stuttgart is a pretty place, the hotel is fine! Nice to have a real room again. We pretty much put our bags down and headed back in to the city for dinner. We walked around the city and saw all the sites. Our hotel recommended an Australian Restaurant so we went there! It was pretty strange, eating 'Aussie' food in Germany!
All the patrons and staff were German and we were the only Aussie's there! They had real WA wine, which cost us a small fortune but we didn't care. Quality wine for a change! You don't go to Germany to drink wine that's for sure! This WA wine was absolutely beautiful and the food was brilliant.

Woke up in the morning and headed to breakfast. After dodgy hostel breakfasts we were pleasantly surprised to see a BIG breakfast buffet!! With bacon and eggs!! With all the excitement we ate way more than we should have, but it was a buffet!! It was awesome!!

We then headed to the Mercedes Benz Museum. The place is brand new, only opened in May this year. Its an awesome place. Nat wasn't too excited to be going to see a car museum, but even she enjoyed it! It went through the history of the 'car' and it was 5 levels! There were old cars there and so much history. They included history over the years, not limited to car history.

You start at the top after collecting your very high-tech audio guide, which was included in the price!

It was a long day. It had how the car industry struggled to cope during World War II and Mercedes almost didn't make it. They were forced to take on slave labour and paid the penalty after the war ended. Huge compensation pay outs to those who were forced to work.

There is so much to see in the museum, we were there most of the day. Some great sights over the years and the technology that they introduced was great to read and see. But enough was enough and time to head home.

Did a bit of shopping coz they have heaps there! More like comparing prices and stuff, coz even with the conversion, most of day to day stuff is quite well prices to Oz!

After a generous wedding gift from our relations in Germany, we decided that a new camera would be the go, as Cam has been eyeing a Canon 400D D-SLR. So off to Saturn (A biiig electronics store all over Europe). Picked up the camera and time to head home and rest.

A quiet day the next day, browsing around town and stuff. And to try the new camera! That night we went to a bowling alley up the road from our hotel. And for the record Nat won by 3 points on the last frame in 3 games! It was a tight battle!

Next day, beer heaven. Volksfest.

Got the train to Bad Cannstad. Bad in German means near the water, go figure…

We got there just in time to see the horse and carts with the first kegs of the season being paraded through the streets.

Found a table that was pretty empty, and settled in for some table service beer and food. We ate half a chook which was great. Nat even downed a Stein! 2 in a week, what’s going on?

They have some crazy rides there; it is the biggest fun fair in Europe, with the biggest portable Ferris wheel in the world. And we went on it! Very beautiful.

Then cam went on a ride that was like a giant swing. Very cool indeed. Could feel my guts in my neck!

Got home went up the park to chill out and enjoy our last afternoon in Stuttgart. Very relaxing!

One tip for Stuttgart. Try to work out the local transport system! The train system is very confusing and there could be 4 trains leaving from one platform. We managed to go the wrong way on many occasions, ending up no-where near where we wanted to be. This occurred a couple of times a day!

The rest of the pictures that were taken whilst we were here are in our Photobucket site. See the Berlin entry for details on how to use but the link for these pictures are:

Coming Up, Berlin
